Counselling Across Cultures and Languages

An 18-hour professional training programme for counsellors, psychotherapists, coaches and educators.

This course is designed for practitioners who are currently training or already working with clients and want to develop their intercultural awareness and skills. Basic knowledge of Transactional Analysis and counselling is required to enrol. The 18 CPD hours are accredited by ITAA and NATAA and count towards the training requirements for Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) certification. At the end of the course, participants will receive a Professional Development Certificate confirming 18 hours of training in Transactional Analysis and intercultural practice.

Learning Outcomes

1. Challenges of Intercultural Work

Exploring the challenges of working across cultures through an ego states perspective.

2. Navigating Cultural Adaptation

Understanding adaptation and identity through the change curve.

3. Finding Common Ground

Building connection across difference using the concept of frame of reference.

4. Becoming Sensitive to the Unknown

Developing curiosity and awareness of our assumptions through intercultural sensitivity.

5. Holding Difference with Awareness

Working thoughtfully with cross-cultural positions.

6. Culture as a System

Exploring how family, community and culture interact through structures and dynamics.

7. Meaning-Making and Language

Evaluating how culture and language shape meaning and identity, including multilingualism from a TA perspective.

8. Belonging and Exclusion

Understanding the impact of belonging, exclusion and marginalisation through an intersectional lens.

9. Your Purpose Across Cultures

Reflecting on your own position and purpose as an intercultural practitioner through life script.

Participants will receive a course booklet after each workshop, containing references and practical exercises related to the concepts explored.

About the Trainer

Piotr Jusik, PTSTA, MBACP, ILM Level 7

Piotr is a counsellor, clinical supervisor, coach and educator with over 15 years of international experience across the UK, Poland, Guatemala and other multicultural contexts.

He is a Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (PTSTA) and an MBACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, with an ILM Level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Executive Coaching and a Diploma in Clinical Supervision.

He is also Co-Director of the Instituto Centroamericano de Análisis Transaccional (ICAT), where he teaches and develops TA training programmes. His professional interests focus particularly on culture, identity, language, migration, belonging and the experience of living across cultures.
